The Role of the Mayor of Stamford

The mayor serves as Stamford’s foremost citizen and ceremonial leader, representing the town as a whole. This role is non-political, focusing on presiding over council meetings and representing the town council at civic and ceremonial events. Through a wide range of engagements, the mayor acts as a vital link between different groups, education establishments and organisations within the community.

In addition, the mayor chairs meetings of the full council, ensuring its business is conducted efficiently while upholding the rights of councillors and addressing the interests of the community.

The current Mayor of Stamford is Councillor Amanda Wheeler. Please enquire about the mayor’s availability to attend an event or engagement by contacting the Town Council on 01780 753808. The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jane Kingman, will attend functions when the mayor is unable to do so.
