Join the Mayor’s Mindspace Mile!

Mayor of Stamford Councillor Amanda Wheeler is take part in two special fundraising runs to raise awareness of World Mental Health Day.

In collaboration with one of her chosen Mayoral charities, MindSpace Stamford, the Mayor is inviting anyone who wishes to join her to sign up and take part.

On the Friday morning, she will be joining the MindSpace running group for a special 5K run, with the route starting at Stamford Rugby Club and ending at the new MindSpace hub on Red Lion Street for refreshments.

In the evening, she will be running The Mayor’s MindSpace Mile, a specially selected mile-long route through Stamford, starting at the Town Hall Terrace and ending at MindSpace for drinks and refreshments.

The Mayor took up running as a new challenge at the start of the year. She says: “I originally committed to running 5K three times a week, but it’s become a bit more than that and so I am now running my first ever half marathon for Great Ormond Street Hospital on October 12th…Besides the physical health I’m getting from running, it is also helping me mentally. Running has ironically slowed me down – it means that I take time out from a hectic schedule every other day and connect with nature.”

She adds: “I wanted to fundraise for Mindspace on World Mental Health Day, as Mindspace is one of my charities this year. World Mental Health Day conveniently falls two days before my half marathon so it seemed the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the positivity that running can offer you by creating the Mayor’s Mindspace Mile and running alongside other people.”

Everyone is welcome to join the runs and sign up for either the 5K or 1-mile route – or both! Entry will be on a pay-as-you-feel basis on the day. There is also an opportunity to buy a technical running MindSpace T-shirt for the occasion, with all funds going to MindSpace.
