Battle of Britain Parade & Service
A parade and open-air service of remembrance will take place in Stamford to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The community is warmly invited to gather at the War Memorial from 10:30am on Sunday, 14 September, for the event which begins with a mayoral procession from the Town Hall to Broad Street.
There will then be a parade of personnel from RAF Wittering, members of the Royal British Legion and local cadets, setting off from Star Lane.
The Mayor of Stamford, Councillor Amanda Wheeler, will officially open the event. A commemorative service with readings will then be held from the balcony of Browne’s Hospital. As part of the ceremony, Stamford’s poet laureate, Ross Ayres, will read a specially written poem and wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial.
A two-minute silence will be observed.
The Battle of Britain was the first major battle fought entirely in the air, which took place between July and October 1940.
